Some cancers and their treatments may affect the ability to eat and swallow. This can make eating challenging and may lead to reduced appetite or unintended weight loss. Therefore, it is important to have access to foods that are soft, moist, and easy to swallow, such as:

To ensure that your loved one is consuming the nutrients they need, try preparing snacks and meals like the ones above.

Some people may require a feeding tube as part of their care. Feeding tubes can be helpful for those experiencing difficulty swallowing, eating, or drinking. If needed, a feeding tube is placed in the stomach or small intestine and can be used to provide liquid nutrition or medication. Your healthcare team will guide you and your caregivers on how to use and care for the equipment properly. If you have any questions, please consult your healthcare team.
